So you've decided to become a Derby girl?

Question 1, do you have the money for this?
June was a tight month for me. I get paid once a month, and I put the money into a separate account and pay myself bi-weekly the opposite week my husband gets paid. This month I had to cover 3 pays, and my cheque did not go up any to help me cover this time. So it was a strange time for me to take up a sport I would have to buy equipment for. You can find some cheap skates and pads on-line, but usually they are crap. I asked allot of questions before ordering my gear both to the girls and coach on my team, and through e-mails to suppliers. In the end I made my choice based on advice given, customer reviews, and customer service.
How did I come up with the money, well that was half begging and half luck.
My husbands car was due for it's inspection, expecting repairs we set aside $200 hoping it would cover everything. The repairs only cost $90 so I tool the remainder to put towards gear.
I asked my father if he would help me out, he gave me $50 and refused to take the money I offered to repay him for the fires and chicken nuggets purchased for the kids at my sons birthday party.
And I went to visit my grandparents as my grandmother had been to sick to come to my sons birthday party and my grandfather randomly handed me a $50 bill and told me to spend it on something frivolous.
Will do!
This along with the $60 I had tucked away cash that I had been saving for myself in case I needed something just about covered my gear.
Yes, that $270 was still shy of me affording everything I needed in my fresh meat package from RollerGirl.ca. So knowing I had another $60 owed to me I borrowed from my tucked away paycheque and voila! I had the $324 needed to cover my package, and  my husbands pay covered the $30 needed to pay the shipping which was due upon arrival.
On top of this until I was officially a member of the team I had to pay to rent gear until mine arrived, and pay for practice time, $10/practice. Then down to only $5/practice once my stuff arrived.
So yeah, it got really really expensive. And I was pretty depressed about the whole thing when I calculated how much everything would cost, but through sheer luck we got through. My husband was super sweet and supportive about me taking the money needed for my stuff, and trust me, if you're married you need to make sure you have that support behind you when you make the initial purchase.
